New Horizons Bali Blouse and Sunset Cami
/I’ve challenged myself to sew one new garment a month just for ME, with nice fabric and all, so when the Bali Blouse and Sunset Cami from New Horizons Designs came available for review, I was excited to try it out! The pattern is simple and straight-forward, and Terra’s instructions and illustrations are excellent!
I chose the slim fit of the blouse because I was using cotton voile for the bottom of the top, and this fabric can get blousy and full and I didn’t really want to add volume. I used knit for the yoke and sleeves, which is not part of the pattern, but it was an easy adjustment since the pattern is made for use with both knit and wovens. There are so many options available for fabrics, and I was thinking this would be amazing in double gauze for warmer weather. Note to self: add to summer self-care sewing! I did mix and match my sizes: I like my camis a little more snug, I don’t have much in the hip area, and the size range for that part of the pattern made for a better fit since I was on the low end of the next larger size. I made an XL in the blouse and an L in the cami and the fit was great! There are lots of measurements to look at, so keep that in mind when choosing your size.
It’s flirty and feminine with that fun peek-a-boo back, but you have the cami option for more coverage. I also added trim to my top because I just had to have that pop of fuschia! If you’re feeling feisty you can go without the cami and still have enough coverage that you won’t have a bra peeking through. Sleeve options give this top more options than there are days in the week. I hope you try this pattern and sew yourself some love!
