Halloween Welcome Sign with Cricut Maker 3

I don’t know what it is about fall that makes me want to go all out with decorating my porch, but fall definitely brings it out in me! This year I decided to make a sign to go on my from door to add to the fun Halloween porchscape i created. I really love the look if the wooden signs with wooden letters, so I decided to use my Cricut Maker 3 and the Cricut Wood Veneer sheets to create that kind of look with my sign.

I normally decorate my door with a huge wreath and I have one for pretty much every season and holiday. However, the birds also really like my wreaths and make them into their cozy homes. This has caused a few unfortunate events that have resulted in birds flying in the house and me screaming in fright when I open the door and they fly out of the wreath. So a wood sign seemed like the safer option for both me and the birds! I started this one with a simple wood round from my local hardware store and some paint that I had at home.

I got the round painted with orange and black stripes, and ready for the welcome message. Then I used my Cricut Maker 3 to cut out the welcome message. Because I was using the veneer, I used the purple strong grip mat and taped down the veneer to the mat. I also used the deep point blade. Using the brayer also helps to make sure the veneer is well adhered to the mat.

The veneer cut so cleanly and easily on the Cricut Maker 3. I was really impressed by the clean, crisp cuts. And the veneer stayed put on the mat with no problem.

Once I had the veneer cut, I used some wood glue to lightly coat the wrong side of the veneer cut outs and placed them on the sign. They did curl up a bit as they were drying, so I flipped it over and weighed it down with some plates for about 30 minutes to allow the glue to dry.

The wood veneer over the paint really gives this sign the look if a wood cut out sign, which i love, but with the machine that I already have, which is even better! I added a quick bow and a hanger on the back, and out on the door it went!

This quick and easy project is the perfect finishing touch to my halloween porchscape. Now all we need is some candy and we are completely Halloween ready! What is your favorite halloween decorating tip?
