The Mini Glitz Dress by Little Lizard King
/Hi, Rachel here today with a review of the newly released Mini Glitz Dress and Top from Little Lizard King. Designed to coordinate with the girls’ Glitz Dress and Top pattern, the Mini Glitz comes in two sizes - 14” for Wellie Wisher dolls, and 18” for the larger standard American Girl dolls. The 18” size will fit most dolls of that size well - Our Generation, My Life, Springfield Girls, Journey Girls, etc.
My 7-year-old was SO excited about this assignment, and it didn’t disappoint. The pattern is well written and easy to put together. Working with tiny doll-sized pieces can be a challenge, but this pattern sewed up without issue. Of course, Miss P’s dolls are the easiest of all the models in my house, too, so that was an added bonus! ;)
I used scraps left over from Miss P’s own matching Glitz Dress - I started with 2 yards of the butterfly print and a yard of the coral. I still have a bit left of each, especially the coral (which I used for the bodice and lining of both dresses). It’s a nice full skirt without being a total fabric hog, which is nice. The bodice is a great shape for embellishing, and even the dolly version has plenty of room to add a little trim or a couple of small buttons.
The methods for finishing the edges of the open shoulder sleeve and for finishing the back of the dress are modified from the girls’ version, and they definitely help with the construction of the doll size. The pattern calls for elastic in the sleeve hems for a cute puff sleeve, but Miss P finds elastic uncomfortable these days so I skipped it for both. Other than that, both versions are straight from the pattern and the final fit was great. Roomy and enough ease to be comfortable for play, but not shapeless at all.
This is Kari’s first doll pattern for LLK, and it’s a home run - I can’t wait to see what she’s got up her sleeve next!
Until next time, Rachel
Bask to school is in full force these days. This cropped button down, The Daydreamer by Little Lizard King is an amazing transition piece for all the seasons and will complement both skirts and jeans. Rebecca paired hers with the Take 5 Skirt, another pattern by Little Lizard King.
