Sedona Dress by Little Lizard King
/This Little Lizard King dress was a labor of love for me!!!! My family just moved halfway across the country and my sewing room is still packed up, so I had to set my machines up at the kitchen table. Then I lost the power cord to my sewing machine, but luckily my husband came to the rescue with a cord from a tv that happen to fit. I also had to figure out how to cut the skirt portion when the only things I had was a tailor's tape measure and my scissors. I persisted and was able to finally get everything done, despite not having all my sewing tools. It goes to show what you can do without having all the fancy gadgets that are still currently sitting in boxes waiting to be unpacked.
As for the actual Sedona dress pattern, It was pretty quick and easy!! I adore a dress or top pattern that has dolman sleeves because that means I don’t have to worry about setting sleeves in and it always has such a nice clean look. This pattern is meant to slip over the head as it does not have any closures on the back. The front of the bodice features a deep V neck. For those that are worried about it being too low, you can easily put a modesty panel in the V. For school, I plan on just having my daughter wear a tank top under it. It is important to make sure you have good measurements or you do run the risk of the V being too deep.
The construction is is very straightforward and it does a good job of describing how to do the burrito method for the sleeves, which can be tricky if you are doing it for the first time. It features an enclosed seam where the bodice meets the skirt, but I cheated and didn’t enclose mine. Shhhh, don’t tell!! Whatever method you end up using works and gives and nice finish. The length is meant to hit above the knee and my finished measurements were spot on and true to the chart. Overall, I think this is a very well done pattern and a fun one to make. My daughter has already requested a few more to be made.
