Starlight City Dress by Lil Luxe Patterns
/Hi it's Katy from my china doll reviewing my first ladies pattern - the Starlight City women's dress and separates by lil luxe patterns. It is designed for knit fabric and comes in a great size range for teens and ladies from XS to XXL with lots of options that are simple to choose from. There are 3 different skirt types - gathered knee length, gathered maxi length and bodycon style; and instructions are also included to make the pattern as separates too. I chose to make the bodycon dress because it is an on trend style at the moment, used a nice soft double knit and added long sleeves because it is getting cold here in Australia. There are also short and 3/4 sleeve cut lines included as well as pockets. The gathered skirt options have measurements included rather than pattern pieces.
The unique twist back design definitely caught my eye, however there is always the concern of wearing a bra with an open back. I was so delighted when I tried on the dress with my normal comfy bra and it was completely covered. This is due to the pattern being graded with 3 different lengths options for the bodice so you can further customise your size selection based upon a height measurement too.
I created the dress based on the size chart and my measurements and it was a great fit. As with any womens pattern, I believe making a muslin to check fit is so important to avoid disappointment that the garment doesn't fit and you have wasted your expensive fabric. The sew itself was not tricky and well explained. It was probably helped by the fact I had already sewn many of the girls woven version before too. I love matchy matchy so being able to sew a mummy and me set is always a great option too. I love that the pattern gives you instructions for creating the perfect fit.
As with any ladies pattern, taping together the pieces can be a little more time consuming but I think the reward of sewing for myself is even greater than sewing for my girls (but shh don't tell them that). I have found such great joy sewing and wearing creations I have made for myself. This pattern is flattering, comfortable and very stylish - make one for yourself, you are worth it!
