In the 2 years I've been sewing apparel, I've assembled my share of dresses. Its to the point that I see a new dress pattern, think how cute it is, and then keep scrolling. But this design? This stopped me in my tracks!
The show-stopper is obviously the twist-back. It is such an original concept, one that has had strangers stopping me asking "where did you get that dress??" But flip it over and the front collar balances the back perfectly! (It is, of course, optional, and I've seen lovely versions of this dress without it!)
I made the 3T based on my 3-year-old's measurements. The length is PERFECT! But the bodice is seriously roomy. When I make this again, I'll size down the bodice, or take another 1/2 inch off the side and sleeve allowances.
I would consider this a beginner pattern, with the caveat being that the skirt/back elastic assembly was hard for me to understand. (Silly, right?? From the looks of it, the back would be tricky! But I didn't find this to be the case.) My back channel was a little narrow, and the elastic stretched out as it squeezed through. I'd love to take another stab at this pattern. I think it'd go much smoother the second go around.
This pattern covers 8 sizes from 18m-8y, 3 sleeve lengths, and optional collar. There are 3 pages of illustrated assembly instructions, and charts for sizes, fabric requirements, finished garment measurements. There are 7 pages total.

Hello fellow seamstresses!
Nicole here, and I'm excited to be here to tell you all about the Lil Luxe Collection by Jess B.
The Starlight City Dress is a very stylish, chic, and beautifully tailored dress. It is simplicity at its best with a touch of flair. This will be a perfect dress to make for any upcoming holiday event.
Details about the pattern:
- 18 month to 8 youth
- fabric yardage chart
- Computer drafted with graded
- Layered pattern tiles so you can print only the sizes you want
- Step by step illustrations with easy to understand instructions
- Schematic drawings with comprehensive measurements so you can easily customize the fit
- Different sleeve lengths
- Customize the skirt length for shorter or longer style
- 3/8" and 1/4" seam allowances
The fit of the dress is true to size. Please make sure you are very accurate with your measurements and with cutting out your pattern pieces. The slightest mistake can make a huge difference in your end result.
The back caught my eye with the twisted back that makes this dress so elegant. I love the collar piece. I will note I did do 1 layer of interfacing on my collar as I wanted it to be more structured and not floppy. I did top stitch the entire bodice pieces along with the collar for a more polished look which is completely optional.
ou have the freedom to really create a simple everyday look or style it with fancier fabrics for a special holiday look. How gorgeous would silk and overlays be?! I used fabrics from Art Gallery Fabrics and Robert Kaufman for my look, which was inspired by my friend, Elizabeth. And that gorgeous headband you see was made by JaNette from Merri Poppins.
This is a must have pattern I can't wait to add more of Jess' pattern to my collection. To see all the patterns that Jess has created please check out her website!
XOXO,
Nicole
