Emily Dress by Violette Field Threads

Hi there. I'm Katy from My China Doll and I have created the Emily dress pattern by Violette Field Threads for review. It is a timeless design reminiscent of Jane Austen times and it would be the perfect pattern for a special occasion design. It is sized for girls from 2-10 years.
The Emily pattern has an empire waistline and features four maxi skirt styles - straight, layered, wide ruffle hem, or chiffon tulle layered. It has an optional ruffled neckline, and sweet cap sleeves. Lots of options means you have great flexibility in creating your desired look. Shortening the skirt length to create a more practical length is also a possibility too but not included in the pattern. I created a fancy, special occasion version for mine. I used all the options on my dress including the cap sleeves and ruffle neckline, as well as nylon chiffon for my skirt overlay. I won't lie, the nylon chiffon was a little slippery to work with, but the result was definitely worth it. I added some cute heart snaps to close the back bodice and an embroidered lace for the sash, which I attached once the dress was completely sewn. I really love the maxi dress length and so does she.
The bodice construction is great, especially because the cap sleeves are fully enclosed within the lining which means no uncomfortable seams. I love having the skirt top edge completely enclosed within the bodice for comfort (and prettiness too) so I modified the construction slightly to do this. The instructions are clear and easy to follow.
Violette Field Threads has such a lovely collection of patterns and the Emily is a wonderful addition and enjoyable sew.
