The Isobel Dress by Violette Field Threads
/Hey Everyone! It’s Weatherly from Love and Lilies Designs and I’m bringing you my thoughts on Isobel from Violette Field Threads.
Isobel is a beautiful pinafore dress with options including side ties, flutter sleeves and a double skirt with ruffles, and a 4 or 6 button closure in the back! Now first and foremost with any pattern make sure you check the size chart and go by your child’s measurements. I don’t know about you but I feel like every time I make my daughter something I’m surprised by how much she’s grown!
For my Isobel dress I decided that I wanted to do a simple version because my fabric was patterned with flamingos… Can you tell I’m ready for warmer weather?! So, I went with the basic pinafore dress with side ties and one skirt. My daughter’s chest size is right in between the 3T and 4T so I used the 4T measurements as suggested by the pattern and it turned out great! It’s not too big to where it looks funny but it does give her a little growing room, which I like! Now my machine was also acting a little funny on button holes and I didn’t want to lose my mind trying to fix it on my flamingo dress so instead of buttons in the back I used 4 sets of snaps in a coordinating color and it worked out perfectly. Don’t worry, my machine and I had a long talk and are back on good button terms… fingers crossed.
What I love about this pattern is that it’s perfect for dressing up or down. You can easily make a dressy version with your fabric choice, adding trim, the double skirt with ruffle bottom; or, if you’re looking for a great every day dress, do the simple version like I did!
