Maximize May: Patterns for Pirates Sunshine Dress
/We love spring and we love maxi's so we decided to mash that up with a feature this week: Maximize May. We will be bringing you some our favorite maxi's all week ling and today we are starting with the Sunshine Dress from Patterns for Pirates. Trisha and Rebecca made two totally different but equally lovely versions. Check them out below!
I love Maxi dresses. They are so comfortable, especially when made with double brushed poly! Plus I don’t have worry about blinding anyone with my white legs, and I don’t have to worry about if I have shaved recently. I can chase my kids around in them, and I don’t have to worry about giving people a show as my kids climb all over me.
There have been several boutiques around me that carry dresses very similar to the Patterns for Pirates Sunshine Dress and Layer Me Up Mashup that is on their blog. Every time I see someone wearing them I drool over them, so I knew I had to try to make my own version. Following their directions on the blog to add the sleeves was nice and straightforward. I added 1 ½” in length to the bodice and 2” to the skirt for my height. I also flared the skirt out just slightly because a line always works better on my body. So instead of cutting a square of fabric to gather for the skirt, I cut more of a trapezoid.
This dress definitely met my expectations, and is my new favorite dress that I own. I got several compliments on it when I wore it today, and I felt pretty in it. I definitely think I need to add a few more of these to my collection, especially with summer approaching.
Spring is here and it's finally starting to warm up, which means it's dress time! I love maxi dresses because they seem to be just right for so many occasions; I feel great wearing it to the farmer’s market on a Saturday morning or out on a date Saturday night. I decided to sew up the Patterns for Pirates Sunshine Dress, because I love the side ruching! I also love all of the options you get with this pattern, there are three dress lengths and three different bodice choices plus a pocket option, so whatever your mood you are bound to find an option that suites you!
