Mama and Me Sewing: The Sommer Dress by Made for Mermaids
/Hello, Heather from All Things Katy!, here! Today I’m reviewing the newest women’s pattern by Made for Mermaids, the Mama Sommer Mini, Dress and Maxi. The Mama Sommer features a fitted knit bodice, two waist options (empire and natural), three skirt lengths (mini, dress and maxi) and three strap options (single and double crossovers and a crossover/straight combo option). This lovely knit dress is sure to be a summer staple!
I sewed up a size “purple” (bust 34”-35”), empire waist, crossover/straight combo strap, maxi dress. Because of my *ahem* height, I did shorten the maxi dress length to better suit my 5’-0” stature. I used a yummy double brushed poly from So Sew English that I bought as part of a bundle awhile back.
I love the easy, breezy styling of the Mama Sommer! The knit bindings are well-detailed in the tutorial and easy to accomplish and master. By going by the color-coded sizing chart, I was able to get the perfect bodice fit- tight, fitted and flattering. While the maxi length dress does use quite a bit of fabric, the bodice and bindings are a great scrap buster. The Made for Mermaids Mama Sommer is fun to sew AND wear! Plus, there is a girl’s Sommer dress pattern and #twinningiswinning!
Today Heather reviews the Nina Swing Dress by Made for Mermaids. This versatile dress has a Mama and kid version and is super comfortable to wear. Both Heidi and Rebecca join in to show their versions as well!
