Amaya Dress by Violette Field Threads

Back to school is always bittersweet for me at Snickerdoodle Stew. While I want to spend the month leading up to the first day sewing like a mad woman, our school has a uniform dress code, and sewing pieces in khaki, navy, and canary yellow makes me too sad to even try! But a girl has to sew...and a little girl has to wear pretty dresses for other occasions, right? The Amaya Dress from Violette Field Threads seemed like a great way to sew something special for church or dinners out with the family! Amaya accommodates sizes 2T-10 in the girls version, but you can find it in doll and Tween sizes as well! With no closures and several sleeve and skirt options, you can easily sew this in a few hours. I even think I saw some knit versions posted in their Facebook group!

I sewed Amaya with the high-low skirt option with ¾ sleeves, and chose some dreamy Shannon Fabrics Embrace double gauze from my stash. Starry Night in cloud/silver is the perfect combination of sparkle and shine, and breezy enough to get us through the end of the Summer. Pairing it with skinny jeans and boots will help it make a Fall appearance, too! My daughter fits the size 8, and I opted for adding 1” to the hem just to make it more wearable without having to add jeans or leggings just yet. This dress would totally be dress code friendly for most schools and would make getting ready in the morning a cinch! A perfect match for any back to school beauty!
