The Avery and Riley by Violette Field Threads

Hi there!  It’s Kari from That's-Sew-Kari sharing two new Violette Field Threads’ patterns - Riley Top (& Dress) and Avery Shorts (& Pants). The Riley Top is a fun tank-style pattern for woven fabrics with a double hem and a split back.  Avery is a throwback to vintage sailor-style shorts and also comes in both culottes and pant length.

For this outfit, I raided my scraps and came up with fabrics from 3 separate past projects and created a fun, waiting-to-go-back-to-school outfit.   Both patterns came together really well, but you really have to make sure on the Avery shorts that you are meticulous about your seam allowances. It is drafted beautifully with so many parts that all come together as one.  The Riley Top is super easy and simple to sew. I did end up shortening the straps a bit, but that was easy to do even after I was all done!

Do you ever see a pattern and just fall in love? That’s how I felt about the Riley top and dress from Violette Field and Threads. It’s hard for me to pinpoint exactly what caught my eye, maybe it was the delicate shoulder straps, or the way the bottom layer peeks out under the dress and in the back. Whatever it is I like this dress. My oldest has been playing in hers all day; she’s been up and down, climbing around and sitting and I can tell her dress is comfy in all of those positions. I also love that it is made without buttons, zippers, snaps etc. I don’t know about you but I never seem to have matching accessories on hand but with this dress they’re not needed!

The Avery shorts and pants are just as wonderful. My girls are dress girls but I really wanted to give Avery a try so I made a pair for my youngest. I was surprised by how quickly they went together even with all of the buttons and flaps! The true test came when I asked her to wear them. They went on without complaint and she even insisted on sleeping in them, so I knew she loved them too! These patterns are another win/win, my girls love them, I love them and the construction is easy and smooth.
