Hey there...Heidi here! Today I am reviewing the revised Pink Thistle Coat pattern from FooFoo Threads. This pattern got a revamp to include two different skirt options - regular and extra full. I made the new, regular skirt. The pattern includes sizes 6/12mo-10 and has layer printing! The coat is fully lined, so it has the potential to be reversible.
When I saw this quilted buffalo plaid at Hobby Lobby, I knew it would make the perfect coat. I paired it with some black and white stripes because they go with everything (or at least I think so!).
Pattern pieces are included for the bodice, sleeves, hood (optional), and back waistband piece. There is a cutting chart for the skirt and sash ties. Be sure to only cut the skirt pieces for your desired fullness and not all of them!
The pattern is for a double breasted coat, but I wasn’t able to fit two rows of buttons on mine, which I assume is because I made the 12/18mo size and used very large buttons. If I would have overlapped the bodice enough for two rows of these buttons, there wouldn’t have been room for my daughter’s neck. The two buttons that I used worked perfectly though!
I love how the finished arm lengths for the sleeves are included. I should have paid better attention to this and made my sleeves much shorter. My daughter has short arms, but I was impatient and wanted to finish the coat during nap time so she wasn’t awake for me to measure her. Hopefully this coat will fit us again next winter as well!
I am in love with this coat and can’t wait for it to be cold enough for us to wear it. It is exactly what I was looking for since I hadn’t picked up a coat for the winter yet. If you are intimidated to make outerwear, don’t be. This pattern is easy to follow and each step is very detailed. You can do it!
