Scientific Seamstress Sew A Long Day 3

How are you doing today? Day 3 in the sew-a-long brings us to the fly area!

I did both the functional and the non functional versions. Functional fly how-to is up first in the "lovely" green plaid fabric and non function in the actually lovely Sisboom fabric.

OK, on to the functional fly!

First I lined up the fly like the pattern shows - to get my ends turned under evenly.

Then I stitched down both sides of the fly, on the left fly and right fly.

Next I put the left and right fly's together and did the pentagon on the bottom as per the pattern

and I stitched the top square (shown in lovely pink artwork stitches)

Now, the fly is a bit ... drafty... So I decided a button really was a must have! I picked a nice small button, lined up the center of the front fly and let my auto button holer go to work!

To get the button in spot I am sure there is a better way to do it, but I always lay flat and then put a pic through the fabric right in the center of the button hole and then I know just where to center my button.

Ta-da! All done!  Isn't it lovely ! Now if only I had remembered to switch out my white thread to something that blended better with the fabric. Oh well, at least the button matches!

the non functional fly (aka easier fly - but just by a smidge)

Line the fly's up together and pin in place after you do the stitch down the side like indicated in the pattern.

Stitch around the sides and make the pentagon  and stitch the square about the top.

And either fly you chose is now done! wa-hoo! Tomorrow we finish these up!
