Teachers Pet Dress and Romper By Ellie and Mac

Hi all, Tasha here from Sewn at Seams I’m back with a review of the Ellie and Mac Teacher’s Pet Dress and Romper pattern.  It’s hard to believe Little Miss will be starting preschool soon, but here we are just a few short weeks away from that happening.  I needed to think of wardrobe pieces that she could wear now as well as in a few months when the weather starts to cool down.  When I saw the Teacher’s Pet pattern, I immediately loved that it could be layered with a tank or longer sleeved top underneath, and knew it would work well for our needs.

The Teacher’s Pet pattern includes options for a bubble jumper dress as well as a shorts romper version.  I opted to sew up a jumper dress version first, as I knew that would be easier for her when getting dressed in the mornings.  The pattern is simple to cut and sew up as most of the pieces are rectangles and the instructions include a cutting chart.  After reading through the pattern instructions and choosing my options, I discovered I only had to print the pages for the skirt pieces which saved time, paper, and toner.  I just referred to the measurements on the cutting chart for the remaining pieces.  The instructions include photographs for each step, and as a visual learner I appreciated that as it made it easy to follow the steps during construction.

Based on the measurement chart in the pattern, I cut a straight size 4 for my daughter and I am pleased with the fit.  Everything hits at just the right spot from the length of the shoulder straps down to the finished skirt length.  I also loved that it was easy to use a panel for the front bodice.  My daughter loves the dress, although I think she would like a little more twirl factor.  I can easily see using the bodice pieces and changing out the skirt for a different look.

I’m sure I will cry on her first day of school but it looks like Little Miss will be jumping for joy!
