The Seashore Collection by Little Lizard King

Hi it’s Marnie here and if it is warming up where you are living, then I have a great review for you today. It’s the Seashore collection from Little Lizard King - it’s simple, it’s fast, it’s great value for money and it’s super cute!

The Seashore Collection as the name implies, is more than just a simple pattern. Within it are options for
A tank top (the version I have sewn)
A pants romper
A shorts romper
A tunic
A dress
A maxi dress (with or without a ruffle)
And a dress with a hi-low hemline.
That’s eight different looks from just one pattern, and with sizes 12 months all the way through to 12 years, it is a pattern that can be used for years and years to create totally different outfits.

The Seashore Collection achieves all these options within one pattern by using the same top pieces and changing the bottom pieces. I fell in love with the plain and simple tank top version of the pattern some months ago, when I saw it worn with a different pattern release and did some stalking to figure out which pattern it belonged to, and have had my eye on it ever since. The top and in particular the back of the top is the thing I love most about this pattern. It is a very unique design that uses a strap to connect the front and back pieces over the shoulders and through casings at the tops of the front and back pattern pieces. I love the strap - it is my favorite design feature and allows you to really customize the pattern to suit your individual tastes. I used a shoelace for mine because I love the contrast colour it gives and I find them quite sturdy and useful for sewing projects. I have sewn the simple tank top version here, but to see photos of some of the other versions, please scroll down to see photos from the rest of the team.

The top pieces of the Seashore Collection are sized for knitted fabrics, whilst the bottom add ons can be made from either knits, or wovens. I do love patterns that combine knits and wovens together, especially because I hate breaking up art gallery collections of fabric - and I love the option to sew in all knits too. I’ve sewn my top in a European cotton lycra from Pehemia, one of my favorite European Fabric designers and stockists and I was really happy with how it turned out.

The instructions that accompany the pattern are descriptive and easy to follow. The diagrams provided with the words are clear and I found this to be a very simple and fast sew. My daughter measured right on a size 4 according to the measurement charts given in the pattern, and I found the sizing to be very accurate. Because of all the pattern options, there may initially seem like quite a few pages to print, but if you follow the print guide for the option of your choice, you will find this reduces the number of pages needed to print substantially.

We are in our final month of Autumn here  - it’s still quite warm, but will cool off dramatically in the next few weeks, and I would love to see everyone approaching Summer showing their Seashore outfits in the LIttle Lizard King Facebook Group to remind me that the warm weather still exists somewhere! I’m sure you”ll love this little collection as much as I do. Thanks for reading along,

Marnie
