Rosette's Dress by Lily Bird Studio
/We had our first stretch of really warm weather here in the Midwest this week and while I was hoping for a little more of Spring, it was nice to not have to worry about layers or anything since the days started off warm! Today we have a terrific trio of the adorable Rosette's Dress by Lily Bird Studio, reviewed by Larissa. Let's see what she has to say about this fun little dress!
Today, I have Lily Bird Studio’s Rosette’s Dress. I am constantly looking at patterns from the view of "will they last a sewist for years to come?" As my daughter becomes a teenager, we are starting to move out of a lot of designer’s size ranges. Now, I must borrow my friend’s girls to model as I continue to sew all these cute dresses! Instead of just sewing up 1 size, I decided that I would have some fun and sew up a few different sizes to show off the range of this pattern. I gathered some friends, took measurements, and got to work!
The finished measurement chart is a little different with this pattern, as the waistband is either shirred or has elastic casings, so that, along with the length are your main measurements. I measured all the girls, and then looked at what size they wore in RTW, then based my sizing on that. I love that she has you do all of the rolled hems/hemming at once rather than during construction! I chose to do a rolled hem on my serger for all 3 dresses, along with shirring the waistbands. I also opted for snaps for ease of dressing. You can use snaps, buttons, or just sew the straps to the back! The dress construction was fairly quick once all the hemming was completed!
Of course, the day we are scheduled to take pictures, my youngest model was not feeling well. I got pics of the older girls in theirs and then called another friend that has a little girl in a similar size. For the size 10, I did notice the back is pulling a bit, but it might be my snap placement. The size 7 dress fit perfect! The size 3 was a little bit big on my youngest model, but I was able to place a second set of snaps on the straps and she has a dress she can wear all summer!
