Paisley's Open Back Peplum Top and Dress by the Simple Life Pattern Company
/If you've been following the buzz in the sewing and PDF groups on Facebook lately, you have probably heard of a new pattern company called the Simple Life Pattern Company. In fact, if you follow this blog, you saw our launch party last week! We're so excited to be a part of helping you discover Katie and her fun and unique patterns. So today, we have a review of one of those patterns from Paige: Paisley's Open Back Peplum Top and Dress.
Simple Life Pattern Company recently launched a new line of patterns and I had the opportunity to make the Paisley's Open Back Peplum Top and Dress. This can be made with all knit fabrics or a combination of a knit bodice with a woven gathered skirt.
Other than the top or dress options, there are 2 skirt choices (gathered or circle) and 3 sleeve lengths (sleeveless, short, or long). There is also a modification to prevent a bra strap from showing. These different options make this a pattern that can be used throughout the year. Since it's winter here, I made the top version with the circle skirt and long sleeves.
This pattern includes:
- 15 pages of pattern pieces for sizes 2-12
- measurement cutting charts for the bands and bindings
- instructions and color photos
- charts for sizing, finished length, and fabric requirements
- list of materials
- tips for sewing, printing, and pattern assembly
- fabric recommendations
- photos for inspiration
This is a quick beginner level sewing project. There are two cutting charts provided depending on which skirt option is chosen. This prevents confusion about which pieces are needed. The open back style gives this top/dress a unique look and the pattern includes a nice range of sizes (2-12). When I first saw a picture of this dress/top, I made the assumption that it was made with knits only. It was a nice surprise to learn that this can be a knit/woven combo. This expands the possibilities. So many choices......which one should I make next?
Happy Sewing!
