Hi this is Andrea from Boysterous (www.facebook.com/boysterousboyswear) and despite not having any girls to sew for myself I have a niece who I knew would totally rock (and then some) these Freestyle pants from EYMM. I just love the harem style pant craze that seems to be everywhere at the moment, they look so comfortable and yet you can go totally crazy with patterns and colour to really create an eye catching outfit.
I like the look of the curved waist band and the leg finished with the cuff, it just gives the pants a dressier look. In an evening type fabric and paired with a silky top, I think they would be an ideal party outfit.
I have heard some great things about EYMM in terms of ease of pattern use, i.e. just taping pages together without having to trim any edges 'hooray'. I can't say that my experience went quite as smoothly as that, but put it down to being on the opposite side of the world and using different sized paper as to what was intended. I did get there eventually and the instructions were easy to follow and thorough.
I chose a rayon knit fabric as it has a beautiful lightweight flow, comes in a 54in width, and has so many different colour and pattern options to choose from. I'm sure a heavier knit would look just as good for cooler weather or even a silky fabric.
The sizing looked a little on the small side in terms of length so I added a few inches to mine (but when your 12 years old with the figure of an 18 yr old, with legs that go on for miles.....must be tough!).I will definitely be making more as I have had a few friends requesting harem pant outfits for their little ones, I may even use the straight waist band option and make up some boys versions ;) .

My name is Theresa. I am a stay at home, homeschooling mom. I have six amazing children and am hoping that at least one of them inherits my love of sewing! I taught myself to sew about three and a half years ago and sew every free moment that I get. I enjoy testing patterns and writing reviews. I am happy to be back to review for Pattern Revolution again. This time, I had the pleasure of reviewing, The Freestyle Harem Pants, Shorts and Capris by Everything Your Mama Made and More.
There are several options included in the Freestyle Harem Pants. It includes the patterns and instructions for making pants, capris, and shorts. It features a comfortable waist with a flat front and elastic back. For the front waistband, you can choose a straight waistband or v shaped one. The bottoms can be finished with elastic or cuffs.
The tutorial/pattern downloaded and printed easily. There are easy printing and assembly instructions included. The pattern pieces are very well drafted. They matched up perfectly and are nested, color coded, and clearly marked for each of the different sizes for easy cutting. Not only are the sizes color coded, but the designer also uses different types of lines for the different sizes, so that you can print in black and white. Awesome for me since I still only have a black and white printer! A measurement chart is given, as well as instructions on how to achieve a custom fit. My finished garment measurements match the charts measurements exactly. A large range of sizes are included in this pattern: newborn – 18! You will use this pattern for years. There is also a chart of fabric requirements for each size.
The Freestyle Harem Pants/Capris/Shorts are intended to be used with knit and woven fabric. The tutorial is thorough, clear and easy to follow. The instructions are very detailed. There are clear, color photos included to aid in the understanding of these instructions. No special tools or skills are required. I think the tutorial is detailed enough for even a beginner to follow along. If you are new to sewing with knits, this is a quick and easy pattern to start with! It took me less than 45 minutes to sew these up! Hints and tips for sewing with knits are included.
These pants have a clean professional finish and look so cute on! This pattern is so versatile. With the three different length options, this is a great all season pattern. They look cute styled casually with t-shirt or tank. They would also look great paired with a blouse and/or blazer for a more dressy style. They look great for with sneakers, shoes or tucked into boots. They are practical and chic. I only used one fabric for my pair, but they can be made with more if you use different coordinating and contrasting fabrics for the pants/capris/shorts, waistband, and optional leg cuffs. You can get creative with your fabrics! I will definitely be making more of these!
