When I got the
Reversible Bucket Hat pattern by
Sunday Girl Designs, I immediately thought this would be great for the beach. I chose fabrics that coordinated with my daughter's swim cover up dress.
With this pattern you can choose to make a hat with a plain border (unisex version, yay!) or one with a ruffle border and an optional removable ruffle band for a double ruffle look. Pattern pieces are also included to add a bow. Since this was intended for the beach, I wanted to keep it casual. I added the ruffle trim but didn't add the additional ruffle or the bow.
The hat is also reversible. I'll tell you more about that later.
Here's what is included with the pattern:
*pattern pieces for the hat and dimensions for cutting other pieces
* 19 pages of instructions with pictures
*measurement chart to determine size
*list of materials
The hat wasn't difficult to make but I did need to take my time when attaching the top to the sides and while stitching the rows on top of the brim. It's really important to make sure your fabric is flat during these steps. I did use stabilizer throughout the hat. For my next one, I would use a double layer of stabilizer. The designer did mention this as an option.
As I mentioned, the hat is reversible. When I was planning this hat, I didn't really think about the inside showing. That might be something you want to keep in mind when making this. I'm sure this hat is going to be worn a lot this summer.
