The Poppy Fields Romper by Ellie Inspired
/Hello again! Most of you probably know me by now. My name is Theresa. I am a stay at home, homeschooling mom of six. I taught myself to sew about three years ago and I sew and pattern test every free moment that I get. I am happy to be back to review for Pattern Revolution again. This week, I had the pleasure of testing and reviewing The Poppy Fields Romper by Ellie Inspired. If you are not familiar with Ellie Inspired Patterns, you are in for a real treat! Ellie Inspired patterns are unique and well written. I must admit, I have a bit of an addiction and have sewn up nearly every one of them!
Let me just start by saying, the Poppy Fields Romper pattern is ADORABLE! It features a lined bodice, front pockets and tons of options. You can make the romper in shorts, pants or capri length. The bottoms can be finished with ruffles or hem bands. The bodice can have halter ties, or straps that can be buttoned to the front bodice or back bodice or tied through a loop in the back. The back bodice can be shirred or have elastic casings. Some of the additional options and embellishments included are decorative bodice buttons, bodice ruffles, a smocked bodice, piping, shoulder ruffles, front pocket ruffles, back pockets, and bum ruffles. There are even instructions for flat-felled seams if you’d like to do them. The possibilities are endless! I chose to make a romper with the bodice with halter ties, capri length pants with front pocket ruffles, back pockets and hem bands.
The tutorial/pattern downloaded and printed easily. There are easy printing and assembly instructions included. The pattern pieces are very well drafted. They matched up perfectly and are nested, coded, and clearly marked for each of the different sizes for easy cutting. I love that Laura uses different types of lines for the different sizes, rather than colors so that I can print in black and white. The pants pieces are separated into two size groups so that you don’t have to print all the extra pages if you are making the smaller sizes. There is a size chart with measurements to help you pick the perfect size and a chart of fabric requirements for each size.
A large range of sizes are included in this pattern: 1 – 16! You will use this pattern for years.
The tutorial is thorough, clear and easy to follow. The instructions are very detailed. There are clear, step-by-step illustrations to aid in the understanding of these instructions. This pattern is great for all sewing levels. No special skills or advanced techniques are necessary for the basic construction of this romper.
I am thrilled with the romper and so is my daughter. It fits true to size, has a clean professional finish and looks so cute on! I love the stylish look and my daughter loves how comfortable and fun it is. I made mine with two coordinating fabrics but you can certainly use only one fabric or many fabrics for all the different options. This romper is perfect for Spring and Summer wear. You can put a tank, tee or blouse under it on cooler days or wear alone on warmer ones. This was such a fun sew! I will definitely be making more of these!
