Hey Pattern Revolution fans!  It’s Crystal, from Stitched by Crystal, and I am here today sharing my review of the Izzy & Ivy Evie dress.

I had heard a lot about Izzy & Ivy designs in the past but this was my first time sewing one.  I was excited to see what all the Izzy & Ivy buzz was about.  And now I know… this dress is darling!

The Evie is a great summer dress.  It has a knit bodice and a pieced skirt with a sash that ties in the front and a sweet little accent ruffle.

The pattern is for sizes 2-12.  My daughter is mostly wearing size 18 months so I sewed up a 2 for her and she has a bit of room to grow in it.

The dress is a pretty quick sew, it took me longer to dig through my fabric scraps and decide on 5 coordinating fabrics for the skirt than it took to sew the dress!  The pieced skirt design on this dress makes it a great pattern to use up some fabric scraps!

So let’s talk about all the awesome things this pattern offers!
  • The pattern fits sizes 2-12
  • There is a size chart with measurements to help you get a perfect fit.
  • There is a chart for fabric requirements.
  • Easy to follow instructions and clear pictures.
  • Quick sew instructions with a summary of all steps on one page if you like having printed instructions.
  • Only 6 pattern pages to print for the bodice and measurements for the skirt pieces given in a chart.
  • Pattern is easy to assemble after printing.
  • Great tips for working with knits.
  • Quick sew with adorable results!
And the cons… I only have a few, this pattern is great!
  • Pattern prints in color. I like to print in grayscale and had no trouble cutting out my size 2, but I prefer patterns with dash patterns for sizes.
  • The neck hole on my size 2 is a bit of a squeeze going over my 20 month old larger than average head, I am worried it may not fit over her head for too much longer.

Overall, I love this pattern, this is dress going to get lots of use this summer!  I am glad I got the chance to check out Izzy and Ivy designs and I can't wait to sew up more of their adorable dresses!

Evie Sun Dress by Izzy & Ivy Designs

review by kara orr

I don't know how the winter weather is where you live, but it has been brutal this winter for us.  My kids are sooooo ready to get out of the house and run!  My youngest asks me EVERY day if she can wear shorts.  The answer is always no.

When I made the Evie Sun Dress by Izzy & Ivy, she was over the moon with the tank top.  For an added bonus, the weather was nice enough to go outside and take some pictures.

I&I have just begun converting patterns into pdf format with 3 different patterns available now.  Evie ranges in size from 2-12.  I like that I can see an older girl wearing this dress because it isn't over the top frilly.

The PDF pattern includes a sizing chart, fabric requirement chart and tips for sewing with knits.  The bodice of Evie is knit and the skirt portion is woven.  There are nested pattern pieces included for the bodice and a cutting dimensions chart for the skirt pieces.

The skirt is made up of 4 strips and a ruffle with a tie around the waist.  Personally, this is probably one of my favorite waist ties.

The construction of Evie is very simple.  If you are comfortable with knits, it is a breeze.  If you aren't comfortable with knits, it is still very easy.  The bodice is the only knit piece so it's a nice, easy entry into the knit world.  It is also a pretty quick sew, the piecing of the skirt took the longest and that was a simple detail.

I like the little detail the ruffle adds to the skirt, a little bit of frilly in disguise.  My DD is not a fan of ruffles or frills but she didn't even notice the ruffle on her dress.  I can see this dress getting us through the summer because it is so versatile.  It can be worn to church, play and school.

Happy Sewing!
