Designer's Challenge- Filles A Maman

We are definitely tired of the huge amount of snow and the cold from where I live. Ok, my daughters love Elsa, but when it's for real, wearing a dress and high heels on an ice floor might be not as elegant as a princess can do it. Just a thought.

The challenge for me was to bring a little bit of sunshine and get ready for summer before it's coming. Usually, I realize that my daughters need summer clothes only when IT'S summer. I decided to change up things and get geared up right now. I also challenged myself to publish 2 patterns at the same time, I almost gave up a month ago...but I am still here!

Thanks to Robin and the Pattern Revolution for giving me the opportunity to do a lot of sleepless nights...hehe!

Designer's Challenge- My Little Plumcake

Happy Friday everyone!  My name is Michelle Robertson and I am the designer behind My Little Plumcake.  I am so excited to share with you our Designer’s Challenge pattern.

Please let me introduce The Clementine Dress.  My inspiration for this dress is S-P-R-I-N-G!  If you are experience the harsh winter elements like me, then I am betting you feel me here.   It’s always this time of year I get busy sewing my little’s spring wardrobe.  Really, what else is there to do! This year, I am inspired by lightweight dresses that let my little twirl!  I also wanted to create something comfortable and easy to dress up for a special occasion.  And so, we have The Clementine!

I am kinda obsessed with chiffon at the moment, which is a great option for the skirt portion of this dress.  Chiffon offers tons of movement and is very comfortable on the skin.  The dress shown above has three layers of chiffon with a additional inside lining layer that is satin. The tutorial includes a list of skirt fabric recommendations as well as an optional lining layer for sheer fabrics.

I was really set on this design once I started shopping around for fabric.  Have you noticed all the great voile fabrics our favorite fabric designer’s have come out with lately?  Some of my favorite prints are now being printed on voile.  Don't get me wrong, I love cotton, but playing around with different fabrics can really be a lot of fun! This is the perfect dress to experiment using voile and other lightweight fabrics and was our inspiration behind this second look.  This fabric was chosen from the Art Gallery - Emmy Grace Collection.

We recommend knit be used for the bodice.  The tutorial goes into detail on how to work with knit and includes a section for beginners with tips on how to sew with knit fabric.

The front and back of this dress are identical.  Sizes for this pattern include: 6 months, 12 months, 18 months, 2T, 3T, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 & 10.
Whether your little loves lots of ruffles or maybe not so much, this pattern can fit many styles.  The Clementine Dress includes three skirt options.  Below, are some pictures to display the skirt options from our wonderful group of testers.
3 Tier - Lotta Ruffles, the More the Better!

2 Tier - Little Bit of Ruffle

1 Tier - Not the Frilly Type

Designer's Challenge - Muffin Head Patterns

When I heard about the Designer’s Challenge, I knew I wanted in. The challenge was to create a pattern for something that was new or unique. If you have not heard of Muffin Head Patterns, I am not surprised. I have released just two patterns since September. In addition to designing patterns, I run an Etsy shop and homeschool my two children.
