Featured Designer- Terra's Treasures
/Today I'm excited to share with you our March Featured Designer, Terra Jennings of Terra's Treasures. We will be doing a sew a long next week of her Long Beach Board Shorts and Terra is offering a $7 sale on the pattern through Sunday for the sew along. You can find the pattern HERE. I really hope you'll sew along with us! This pattern is unisex and comes in sizes 3m to 14, wow! I've got all my kids covered with one pattern, and I can't wait to get started.
Can you give me a little background about yourself?
I'm a mother of three, 2 boys and one very spoiled little girl. (First girl born on my husbands side in 75 years.) I was a dental assistant for several years before I began this venture in PDF patterns. I actually sold the clothes I made from my patterns first before I really decided that my favorite part of the process was the designing. It took me a year to figure out how to take my hand drawn patterns and turn them into PDF's. But now I truly enjoy what I do.
Who taught you to sew and when?
My mother taught me how to sew when I was 8. She handed my sister and I little scraps of fabric and a needle and thread. From there we designed clothes for our barbies. Lol they weren't pretty, but they were a lot of fun. We were told when we were comfortable with a needle and thread we could start using the sewing machine. And from there my love of sewing began.
How did you get started in design?
When my first son was 6 months old I really wanted to buy him a puffy vest. All the ones in the stores were not any color I was looking for. So I thought, no problem I'll just sew him one. I looked everywhere and could not find a pattern. So I made one. Then when I started my Etsy shop I read all about copyright info and realized I couldn't use anyone else's pattern without permission. And at the time, there wasn't a lot that allowed it. So, I thought, I can do this, and started my own designs.
What inspires you?
Many things. Seeing something unique I've never seen before. Or even just a thought (romantic, modern, etc) or a time era. Honestly I never know what I'll run across that will inspire me.
What are your future plans for your shop?
Sometime this year I would like to have my own website. It's definitely on my list to do. Along with starting an affiliate program.
Is there anything you want our readers to know?
I absolutely love seeing what others make from my patterns. Sometimes other people create things that I never would've thought of, and it just amazes me.
