The Madelyn dress by The Handmaiden's Cottage

Hello Pattern Revolution! Crystal here, from Stitched by Crystal, and today I am sharing the gorgeous dress I just sewed up for my daughter with you!  This dress is sewn with the Madelyn dress pattern by Handmaiden’s Cottage and it is a showstopper!

The dress features a half circle skirt with a really fun zig zag ruffle sewn on the bottom, an elastic back and a halter tie at the neck.  The crossover front bodice can be embellished with trims.  That ruffle on the bottom gives the skirt really great shape and bounce, my daughter was getting compliments everywhere she went in this one!

Handmaiden’s cottage is a designer who is new to me, this is the first pattern of theirs I have sewn, and I was impressed!  The pattern has clear illustrations and easy to follow instructions, it even includes some tips and hints throughout to help your sewing go smoothly and you end up with a really great dress in the end!

I would say this is an intermediate sewing pattern.  The elastic back and halter ties mean no buttons or zippers to mess with, but that ruffle might be a little tricky for a true beginner.  I will admit, I am not a big fan of sewing ruffles, so I was a bit worried what I had gotten myself into when I signed up to sew this dress...that is over 6 yards of ruffle along the hem!  But this pattern uses a technique for ruffling a little bit at a time that made it pretty quick and pain free!

If you haven’t checked out Handmaiden’s Cottage before, you should head over! She has lots of great dress patterns as well as bag patterns, doll patterns, and women’s patterns.  She even sells fabric!  She sent me the voile I used on my daughter’s Madelyn dress and it is just amazing for that dress!  I don’t see that same fabric listed in the shop, but there are lots of great designer fabrics at great prices!
