Rylee Dress by AddieK

It's always fun to get to introduce our readers to new pattern designers, so we're so happy to introduce you to addiek. Her mantra is "Modern Sewing Simplified", but her patterns are unique and current to today's trends. Today, Paige and Nicole have reviewed the Rylee Dress, so I'll let them tell you all about it!

Today, I'm here to talk about the Rylee Dress by addiek. This is a comfy knit dress with dolman sleeves and it is slightly longer in the back than the front. There are three options included in the pattern. You can make a solid color dress, one with a contrast in the front, or one with a contrast in both the front and back. You can also add inseam pockets. My girls are always excited about pockets so I had to add them.

This dress is a beginner level pattern and goes together quickly. There are also video links included within the pattern which go along with the steps. The designer uses layers which allows you to print just the size(s) needed. I really like this feature since you just get the cutting lines for your selected size.

Here is a list of what is included with the pattern:

  • Supply list and material recommendations.
  • Size, fabric, and finished measurement charts with imperial and metric measurements.
  • Fabric cutting layout.
  • Printing instructions with layers option allowing you to print only the sizes you choose.
  • Printing instructions which list pages to print based on option.
  • Pattern assembly layout.
  • Tips for sewing with knits.
  • Website and video links.
  • Pattern pieces for sizes 2-12.
  • Instructions with coordinating line drawing showing the sewing steps.

I wasn't sure how the neckband would look. I'm used to adding a band to the neckline instead of turning it in and sewing it down. I went with the instructions except I added a basting stitch before turning it. Overall, it has a good fit and my daughter likes it.

Happy Sewing!

Hi Nicole here from K & A Couture. I got the chance to review The Rylee dress by addiek. This the first time I have even heard of this pattern shop, but this little dress is so cute and unique.

I had to use this fabric combo. It just screamed to me that each print had to be a different part of this dress! I'm huge Monsters Inc. fan. That movie was where hubby and I went on our first date! Ignore the fact she's wearing Jasmine around her neck (for some reason we don't have any Monsters Inc. necklaces. I need to remedy that!).

e loved that this dress had pockets! I mean what little kid doesn't love pockets!
The dress has a ton of different options also, like you can make it without the color blocking with color blocking only on the front or only on the back. Pockets or no pockets.....so many choices and design options to choose from.

Taping all of those papers is quite a task, but there is a nice little chart included if you just want to print out the option you want to make! Layering has been enabled, which makes it even better! (I don't know why every designer doesn't do this.....I LOVE it!) There's a nice little explanation of what this is and how to use if it you are not familiar with it.

I did alter the pattern just a bit to add a neckband. It is my preference when using knit to do a neckband instead of the fold under method, but this is an easy change and should not deter you from buying it.

This is a fairly quick sew not including taping it took me maybe 45 minutes to cut and make. I did print out all the sizes and options so the taping was not so quick for me. I did that though so I wouldn't have to print again, one time and now all I have to do is trace off the size I want! Next time will be much quicker!
I love how she also included option of how to make a custom fit. My girls are very tall and slim (which is why I make all their clothes in first place). With this pattern I was able to find her chest size, which is included in Imperial and Metric measurements, then add length at the nice little lines she gives on the pattern pieces.

Hope you all love the pattern as much as we do!!
