Town Square Dress by Terra's Treasures

Happy Friday - today we take a look at a great Back to School staple, the Town Square Dress by Terra's Treasures.  This is a great knit dress for upcycling, mixing fabrics, and showing off your girl's personal style.  With a double layer skirt and options for short or long sleeves, this will fit in with most schools dress codes.

Here are Sarah and Theresa to share all the details with you....

Hello Again! This is Sarah and I am here to day with a review of the Terra's Treasures Town Square Dress.

This is a knit dress that features a blocked bodice and a double circle skirt.  The pattern also includes options to make this a top with either a flounce bottom or a banded bottom and the option to make it long sleeve.

My favorite feature of the dress is the front contrast band and neckline detail.  I also like that the way it is blocked together makes it perfect for up cycles.  We are a Frozen crazy family and I had been stashing some t-shirts for up cycling.  They worked beautifully for this outfit.

The pattern has a lot of pieces (as expected) so it did take some time to cut out.  I sewed most of it on the serger, so my sewing time was about equal to my cutting time.

The contrast trim has a slight curve to it, which gives it some cute detail.  The sleeves are one piece with the shoulder, so it is super quick to make.  The bodice was constructed a little differently than I have done before to accommodate the neckline detail.  However, the instructions were very clear with detail and pictures that were very easy to follow.  The pieces fit together beautifully.

Overall, this is a great pattern.  Cute and creative construction, easy to put together and very wearable and comfortable.  I did find it a tad long for my liking, although my daughter liked the length and refused to take it off after pictures, so it gets her vote of approval!  However, I will probably shorten the bodice on the one I am making for the other kiddo.  The good news is, with the longer length, she will fit into this as long as the frozen fad continues! (Who are we kidding? We will never "Let It Gooooooo")

My little "Anna" had to join in the fun of picture taking after getting over her fit because she didn't have a dress like her sisters.  I need to get hers finished quick!

Great for year round, this is a cute and versatile pattern that I will make over and over.

Until next time!

Sarah

--------------------------------------------

Hello again! My name is Theresa. I am a stay at home, homeschooling mom of six. I taught myself to sew about three years ago and I sew and pattern test every free moment that I get. I am happy to be back to review for Pattern Revolution again. This time, I had the pleasure of reviewing The Town Square Dress/Tee by Terra’s Treasures. Let me just say, this is an awesome, must have pattern!

The Town Square Dress/Tee is intended to be used with knit fabrics only. The tutorial is thorough,
clear and easy to follow. The instructions are very detailed. There are clear, step-by-step illustrations to aid in the understanding of these instructions. No special tools or skills are required. This is listed as an intermediate pattern. I think the tutorial is detailed enough for an adventurous beginner to follow along.....just maybe not as a first knit project as there aren’t a lot of tips and tricks included for sewing with knits since it is intended for intermediate sewers.

The tutorial/pattern downloaded and printed easily. There are easy printing and assembly instructions included. The pattern pieces are very well drafted. They matched up perfectly and are nested, color coded, and clearly marked for each of the different sizes for easy cutting. There is a size chart with measurements to help you pick the perfect size and a chart of fabric requirements for each size. A large range of sizes are included in this pattern: 6-12 months – 14! You will use this pattern for years.

There are several options included with the Town Square Dress/Top. It includes the patterns and
instructions for making a dress, a shirt with a bottom band, and a shirt with a hem, as well as short and long sleeve length options. The dress/tee has a square neckline and a bodice with a patchwork construction using multiple fabrics.  I, however, chose to join the front sides and front bodice pattern pieces and the back sides and back bodice pieces together to create single front and single back bodice pieces and use less fabrics in the bodice. I did this by overlapping the pattern pieces by the seam allowance and taping them together.

There is a single flounce for the flounce top option. There are two flounce lengths for a double layer skirt for the dress option. But, you can do a single layer flounce skirt for the dress using just the longer flounce for yet another option! I LOVE flounces.....no gathering! With the two sleeve length options, this is a great all season pattern. With all the options, each dress or tee will be a special one of a kind creation!

I made the dress with three different fabrics, short sleeves and a double layerskirt. I am thrilled with the final garment and so is my daughter. It fits true to size and looks so cute on! I love the stylish look and my daughter loves how comfortable and fun it is.....not to mention the twirl factor! This was such a fun sew! I will definitely be making more of these!
