Laura Top and Dress by Lily Bird Studios

A lot of what I make for my daughter is knit, it is just so comfy and easy for her to play in.  But There are some woven designs that I just fall in love with and have to make for her - and I am particularly happy when they are just as comfy and easy for her to play in.  That is the case with the Laura Dress by Lily Bird Studios.  Add to that the gorgeous construction and you may just have a new favorite on your hands.

Pattern Details:

  • Size 12m-10years
  • High collar or peter pan
  • Front box pleat
  • Back button or snap clousure
  • Charts for yardage, finished measurements, and sizing measurements
  • 15 pages of pattern pieces color coded by size with dashed lines so even in B&W it is easy to find your size.

Directions are easy to follow with clear photos to illustrate step by step.  I really love the finishing of this dress, the front and back facings give a clean finish that looks profesional and makes the neckline lay beautifully.

I picked the peter pan collar and did buttons for the closure (because snaps HATE me).  I also added decorative buttons to the front for an simple extra detail.  I did the tunic top since my daughter loves to climb and play. Paired with leggings and short boots this was the perfect outfit for our current weather (fluctuation between 60-80's).  As the temps dip lower, I'll be able to pair it with a cropped cardi or cute coat.

I was able to sew this up form cut to finish in about an hour.  I went with a size 4 based on the size chart and I think the fit is great.   My daughter has a barrel chest and wide shoulders, so I think next time I might make the box pleat slightly smaller to give a tiniest bit more ease in the chest for her.

I really love this pattern, and I am sure I will be making more, and now you can, too! Ceclia has generously offered a coupon code good for 35% off the price of the Laura Dress, only at www.thelilybirdstudio.com! The code is PRLAURA and is good until October 6th. Thanks, Cecelia!
