Howdy folks! I'm Doray from My Little Nuggets. I'm here today to give you my experience on the Simply Sweet Tunic Top & Blouse from Wink Designs.

It’s not a lie in sewing when you hear “practice makes perfect”. I took a couple months off of sewing and realized I had to jump back in, especially after my 6-year-old daughter told me she missed designing “fashion pieces” with me.

After I caught sight of Wink Designs' Simply Sweet Tunic Top & Blouse I knew it was the perfect pattern to get me back in the game. It has all the details for a perfect blouse for any little girl – comfortable and loose, long sleeves for the cooler weather and a great length for jeans or leggings. For this top, I used a light-weight denim chambray with a rose print and red chambray for the yoke & grosgrain ribbon for the neck tie. The necktie has two variations – use ribbon or make your own fabric ties. Easy peasy. I cheated on the bias binding for the neck and used store-bought bias tape. I have read ten different techniques on making your own bias tape, but I have about zero patience for it. I guess a bias tape maker should be on my Hanukkah list…

The pattern pieces only print out to nine pages (and I love a pattern pieces that print out under 10 pages) and in color, so it’s easy to match up all edges. These pieces come together very quickly so you can get sewing within 30 minutes from printing. The Simply Sweet Top & Blouse is an easy two-hour project, maybe less if you’re really quick. Everything is so detailed so I kept thinking, “I’m going to whip this top up with ease…”

I shouldn’t have been so cocky. It took a lot longer – and not because the tutorial is long or tricky – quite the opposite! Each step is well-written with great diagrams for most steps. Should’ve been a breeze. Let’s just say the seam ripper actually came out of hiding and stayed on my desk. I sewed a sleeve on inside out and sewed the neck binding on upside down, but hey, if I had just taken a breath and calmed down, this would’ve been done in no time. Yup, that's the image below and you can insert all the foul language you can imagine...

Now that I have the hang of this incredibly adorable top, I plan to make more. Simply Sweet would look amazing in corduroy. For the summer months, this top can be made sleeveless with voile or cotton. Fabric measurements are by what’s needed for the yoke, then the sleeves, blouse, bias binding and ties.

And of course, the finished product...

The cuff is elastic which gives the sleeve a wonderful shape...

My nugget has already worn it several times...
