Designer's Challenge - Peaches and Peanuts
/I love to sew for my kids, but over the years as they've gotten older, I noticed that they were beginning to either "size out" of all the cute patterns, or as they moved into their preteens and teens, their tastes began to change. I wanted to develop a pattern line specifically geared toward older kids sizes 6-14 (sometimes 4s, & 16s) that would give them lots of options for expressing their own personal style while remaining age appropriate, yet stylish. I'm excited to share my first pattern from the new line called The Jack and Jill Color Block Shirt. This is a unisex pattern featuring lots of options including 5 different sleeves, 4 collars, two pockets, and color blocking options. It's a relaxed fit shirt that's great for layering or as a stand alone. (Sizes 4-12)
As you can see from the pictures, the pattern was created for movement! Nothing restricting about this one. As a mom of 6 (and one on the way), I'm no stranger to growth spurts and "in between" sizes. Have you ever made something, and a month later it no longer fit? Frustrating, right? Well, no worries, I've got you covered. You should be able to get at least a season or two (hopefully!) out of this design (unless you have a son that's 13 and eating everything like mine. I'm not sure if any pattern could keep up with his growth right now. :) )
The tag line of my company is "Vintage Patterns for Modern Kids" because my designs are heavily influenced by the fashions of the 40s-70s. This season you'll see lots of design elements reminiscent of the 40s from rounded collars and knee length skirts to even "factory" overalls. While the early 40s were a time of practicality and simplicity due to wartime, it was also a time of "outside the box" thinking as fashion forward thinkers found ways to use limited fabrics resourcefully to make their own fashion statement. My style philosophy is similar: Style doesn't have to be difficult or expensive, it just has to reflect you.
Here are some of the sleeve options you'll find with The Jack and Jill Color Block Shirt:
Color blocking instructions are included in the pattern along with a more detailed tutorial available for buyers by private link.
