You know how sometimes you find a fabric or a pattern and you just get a picture in your head of the awesome possibilities that it could lead to? Well, that’s how I felt the first time I saw the new Forest Floor collection by Bonnie Christine for Art Gallery Fabrics. Living in San Diego, we don’t get the opportunity to visit forested areas very often, but I just knew these would be the perfect fabrics for a forest inspired photoshoot. I showed my kids and told them my ideas and asked what they thought we should make and they both wanted to be “protectors of the forest animals”. I let the kids pick out most of the patterns we used. For my son we used the Pixie Hooded Vest from Big Little Patterns, The Zane Joggers from Elliedactyl, and the Jolly Roger Raglan from Pattern for Pirates. For my daughter we used the Grand Isle Maxi from Seaside Notions, the Maisie Leggings from Cottage Mama, the Gypsy top from Striped Swallow, and a skirt/wrap that was self drafted.

Our little forest adventure began with my little protectors discovering a tunnel of beautiful black oak trees. Of course they needed to bring along their sticks we made.

After the tunnel, they discovered a downed tree that needed to be checked out. You never know if there are some animals that may need help up there.

The adventure continued when we found an old water tower that we had to check out.

We wrapped up our time in the forest by frocklicking through a beautiful little meadow and back into a hillside covered in huge cedar trees.

And of course, every little forest girl needs a set of play clothes!
