Offbeat Oxford by Terra's Treasures

Hey there! It is Crystal, from Stitched by Crystal, and today I get to share a fun BOY pattern with you!  I will admit, I don’t sew nearly enough for my son.  But I mean, how many times can you sew that same old shirt and pants pattern before you just get sick of it? I am always looking for boy patterns that are fun and a little bit different and the Offbeat Oxford by Terra’s Treasures definitely fits the bill!

The Offbeat Oxford is your typical oxford shirt but with a fun curved button placket.  I sewed mine up with short sleeves but there is also an option for long sleeves.

As a boy mom, I have sewn so many collared shirts that I think I could do it with my eyes closed now (OK maybe not, but you get the idea!)  The collar and stand construction in this pattern is a bit different than I had ever done before but it went together very smoothly and the instructions were clear and easy to follow.  I love learning a new way to do things!

For my son, I made a size 5.  He is only 3, but he is a big 3, and I used the size chart in the pattern to help me decide what size to make.  He falls perfectly in the size 5 range and the shirt fits great!  I used one of my husbands old dress shirts and with a little pattern piece Tetris, I was able to squeeze this whole shirt out of a long sleeve men’s large.
OK let me give you the rundown on the Offbeat Oxford…
  • Pattern is for sizes 18 months all the way to size 14!
  • There is a size chart as well as finished measurement chart.
  • There is a fabric requirement chart and list of notions.
  • The pattern has very clear instructions that are easy to follow and really great pictures, plus a few illustrations to get you through the trickiest part, the collar assembly.
  • Options for long or short sleeves.
  • Easy to print and assemble.  Pattern pieces in both color with different dashed lines in case you print in B&W.
  • Spot on sizing.

Because of the collar, collar stand and sleeve plackets, I would say this is an intermediate pattern.  It also has a lot of buttons and button holes to sew, but I love the way all those buttons accent that curved front!

Need another great boy pattern to pair with your Offbeat Oxford?  I paired mine with some Ranger Shortsby One Thimble.  They are easily my favorite boy shorts pattern, an easy to follow pattern that gives you a great professional looking pair of shorts!

Today we take a look at the Twirly Skort by The Sewing Geek.  If you have a girl like mine, you know how hard it can be for them to wear skirts in daily life and play.  I have to find bloomers to go under every skirt - and I swear those things run away and go into hiding in the middle of the night!  The Twirly Skort is a circle skirt with attached shorts underneath - wohoooo, no more searching for the right bloomers or peek-a-boo underwear on the playground!
