Today I get to share my most recent sewing adventure with you.... this really was an adventure because I have never made a girls swimsuit before. I am super comfortable with knits, but for some reason I have always hesitated on making one. Well, fear BE GONE! I am so in love with this suit, and it really wasn't any harder than other sewing projects that I have tackled.

And just take a look at the amazing-ness that is the Cosi Swimsuit by Sewpony Vintage.

This pattern is versatile with a capital V. Included are:

I made the One piece with a skirt for Mack. Because I was working with a thicker swim material, I opted out of the lining for the main body of the swimsuit... this really didn't change the construction at all which was great. I love that the straps cross in the back, ensuring that there is no slippage! And for those with little one in swim diapers - my daughter is wearing one in these pictures and it never showed in a whole afternoon of swim and play.

I made a 4T for my daughter, following the size chart, and the fit is spot on. She may be 2, but she is quickly moving into 4T in RTW for tops. You can see in some of the images that it is a tad long in the back, but hopefully that just means it will fit all year, and maybe even the beginning of next season (fingers crossed!)

I did make one other alteration - and that was to create a tutu skirt. I simply cut 3 of each of the skirt pieces in a stretch nylon mesh, each 1/2 inch shorter than the one before. I gathered and sewed them on as one which made it super simple..... and oh so cute! I'm thinking that on the next one I make, I am going to double the length of the strips to get even more fullness..... it just doesn't get better than the cutest swimsuit at the pool ;o) <-- totally biased mama here.
