Born Wild with Blend Fabrics

In general I don't consider myself a fabric hoarder - I sew my fabric and I really try not to buy without a project in mind.  However, I can't ever say no to new fabric lines when they fall in my lap - no matter how tight the deadline or if I have no clue what I am going to sew with it, I always say YES!  When Merav asked me if I might want to participate in sewing up Ana Davis' new  line, Born Wild, for Blend Fabrics; not only did I say YES, but I knew exactly what I wanted to make.  And what I wanted to make was a new design that was just hours old on my sketch pad.

So the best thing about sewing on a deadline is that it means you will get things done.  And born wild is perfect for spring, and particularly Easter.  With 'Boy's Can Wear Pink' fresh in my memory, I bit the bullet and went with the pink color way for both Mack and Asher.  And I now have 2 of my three kid's Easter outfits done almost 2 weeks early - WOOT!

Let's talk about these fabrics a bit.  Today I am showcasing Woodland Creatures and Mosaic Pink.  I knew that these designs would play well off of each other and loved the idea of mixing the modern mosaic with the soft pastoral.  When I opened my fabric, I was floored by how soft the fabric is - it feels so good.  I washed it up and it had very minimal wrinkling and shrinkage which is always a plus.  Quilting cottons are generally easy to sew with and this was no exception.

So what did I sew... well, Asher didn't have a Long Board yet so I knew that was perfect for him for this fabric.  The mosaic may have a lot of pink in it, but it just looks sooooooooooo good on him and not the least bit 'girly'.  I used the Woodland Creatures to line his sleeve cuffs so that you would get a fun peek of the animals, and so that it would coordinate with Mack's Dress.

Mack's dress is my new Fleur Dress Pattern that is going into testing soon.  I used the Woodland Creatures for the entire outer dress and then lined it with the mosaic - which is fun becasue you see a little peak of the mosaic in the flutter sleeve.  Lace and the center accent just add the detail and whimsy to the front that scream sweet Easter dress.  And then there is the back, which I can thank Merav for helping influence me in.  When I showed her a teaser of my first test dress she asked if there was an opening in the back.. and I said no, but there could be.... and this adorable peek a boo back was born.  I love how the gentle curve of the overlapping back bodice shows just a peek - a hint of spring and summer yet to come.  And yet is sweet and not revealing or inappropriate for girls to wear.  The skirt is fun and flouncy and different
