Children's Stylist Duel: "Art Gallery"

Who is your favorite artist? What do you love most about their work? Their vibrant use of colors? Their use of repeating patterns and geometric prints? Their soft flowy painting techniques? Their subject matter? Their mood?
Let their overall style, or a specific piece of work from their portfolio, inspire a modern-day head-to-toe ensemble.

This week, we welcome Melissa from Rebel & Malice! She goes head-to-head with Pattern Revolution's very own stylist extraordinaire, Alexis of My Sweet Sunshine.

My name is Melissa, and I am from small desert town in Southern California. I am SAHM to 5 crazy kids and I blog at Rebel & Malice where you can find me sewing tons of PDF patterns, and upcycling from my neverending supply of clothes.

How long have you been sewing?

I started learning how to sew when I was 5 years old, which was all by hand. Then stopped after high school, and picked it back up again when my oldest daughter was 2 years old.

How did you learn?

My mom taught me how to sew tiny Barbie clothes by hand, and then how to use paper patterns.

Who do you sew for?

I sew mainly for my 3 daughters, sometimes for my 2 sons and husband, and more often for myself.

When do you sew?

All the time. Really. I sew in the morning after my kids go to school, and then late at night while watching TV.

What does your sewing space look like?

A huge chaotic mess. I don't know how to work in organized spaces.  There are patterns all around, and totes and baskets of fabric beside me.

Do you have guilty pleasures while sewing?

My sewing space also works as my computer desk, so I stream shows online (currently finishing Parenthood) and eat cinnamon or gummy candy.

What is your sewing "super power"?

I taught myself how to draft patterns for ideas in my head. It doesn't always work out the right way, but it is something I am pretty good at figuring out so long as the person is there for me to measure and drive crazy with multiple fittings.

What sewing project are you most proud of, why?

This Halloween, I went all out on my daughter's costumes. My oldest wanted to be Maleficent and my other the Queen of Hearts. I studied the costumes my best to try to duplicate and they were beautiful, if I do toot my own horn.

What else should our readers know about you?

I am huge horror movie, dark comedy and music fanatic. I am driven by the darker or taboo things and tend to find my inspiration from things that are not as pretty or considered the normal.

I signed up for Top Stitchers because I love fashion and I felt this would be a great way to challenge me while pulling me out of my comfort zone

I am most active on Instagram, but fans can also find me Facebook.

Hello my name is Alexis Wright and I am excited to be here. I live in sunny California and I blog at My Sweet Sunshine.

I have been sewing for 7 years, basically self taught (and still, ALWAYS leaning).  I actually have my degree in Physical Therapy and when my daughter was 2yrs old I stopped work and stayed home with her. Through motivation of my wonderful friends I found my love of sewing and creating.  At this time my sewing focus is children’s clothing, mainly girls dresses, skirts, pants, shorts, etc… I do on occasion make myself some clothes. I wish I had more time for self sewing projects. Can we add another 4-5 hrs to the day??

I signed up for Top Stitches for the challenge and pushing myself out of my comfort zone. I am most active on Instagram, but you can also find me on my Facebook page.

Tune in Tuesday to see these incredible stylists sew their Art Gallery prompt side by side!
