Summer Dress by Bubby and Me Creations

Hello lovelies! It's Katy from My China Doll and I'm sharing my review of The Summer Dress by Bubby and Me Creations.  This dress just screams hot sunny days, which is fabulous for you Northern Hemisphere peeps, but sadly here in Australia we are heading into winter. It is a girls pattern, sized from 1 to 10. It has unique crossed back straps that are a great design feature and a definite talking point. Be prepared for your little miss to be complimented by strangers in the street when wearing this design.

I have sewn a Bubby and Me Creations pattern in the past and there are clear photographs and instructions which allowed me to make the dress quite quickly. I used the measurement chart to select an appropriate size based on my daughters chest size and height. I made a size 5 and the fit was great. She measured a size 5 according to the pattern's measurement chart and she is also a size 5 in ready to wear. It is very important to make this dress according to exact measurements if you want the dress to fit the body well, especially the straps. The designer gives instructions how to cut pattern pieces for mixed sizes and I think this is an important step to follow.

I love that the pattern pieces are nested and can be printed in layers for cutting ease. The pattern also has both a measurement chart and pattern pieces for the rectangular skirt depending on personal preference. As for me, the less to tape the better.

The front bodice could look great with a placket added or a frill to the neckline, but I do like the simplicity of the plain bodice, especially for older girls. The hemline could have a ruffle added or a contrast hem to make a point of difference too. I used my blind hem foot for top-stitching as recommended by the pattern and if you haven't tried it, you need to, because it makes it so much easier and neater for the straps.

An enjoyable sew that looks more technically difficult than it is. I am sure your girls are going to love it like mine did.

xx k
