Hi everyone! I've been away from pattern making for several months, but I'm back with a brand new pattern. I've been spreading my wings, so to speak, and I've stepped outside my normal quilted box to release my very first wearable design!

It's almost summer here on our side of the globe, and I'm a pale, pasty chick. I avoid the sun like a vampire. It doesn't take long for me to turn lobster red, and I've had more than my fair share of sunburns in my life, especially on my face, shoulders, and the back of my neck. To avoid raising my risk of skin cancer even more, I decided I needed a big hat. And why not? They're very fashionable these days, and much easier to put on than sunblock (which I'll still wear!) Most of the wide-brimmed hats I see are some kind of woven style, but I wanted a fabric one, so it's washable and keeps out ALL the sun's rays. And this is it! Hello, I am Kimberly of Straight Stitch Designs and I am so excited to be joining Swhetty Betties Aspiring Designers Challenge again.  These challenges are just what I need to get my butt in gear and release my pattern.  It's easy to have a pattern sit on your computer just waiting for a few things, trust me I have at least 3 patterns in various stages of completion on my computer right now.  The pattern I am releasing today, Greenwood, is the first pattern in my new collection Straight Stitch Basics.  This is the most 'me' pattern I have made to date and I am really quite excited about sharing it with all of you.

I love to sew and I sew pretty much everyday either for work or pleasure. I am <del>sew</del> so excited to be blogging about the current Aspiring Designer's Challenge.  Thanks for joining us. I don't know about you, but sometimes outfitting my kids can seem a bit overwhelming.  I love them to wear hand made and they love to wear it, but sometimes I run out of time, and we end up at a Big Box Store.  Don't get me wrong, I love to shop as much as the next gal, but my fabric <del>hoard</del> stash MIGHT BE out of control. And I should mention I live with the modesty police and a lot of girls' shorts on the market are not long enough to suit her.

Hi there! I am Nicola, the designer at Seaside Notions. A Navy veteran turned Navy spouse, I prefer to focus on children's patterns and accessories that are fun, light and reflect beach life. Today I am here to introduce my first clothing pattern, the Point Mugu Maxi Skirt. I am very excited to bring this pattern to you.

My new pattern being released today, the Noisy Dirt Cargo Shorts, feature large cargo pockets with gussets. These can hold huge amounts of 'stuff' that boys insist are so important to carry around! There are also two welt pockets on the back for extra 'stuff'. They are designed to come to just below the knee or mid shin and the crotch sits a little bit lower than standard shorts - more "slouch" style. I have written the pattern to have them resemble 'cut offs' or 'designer fray' on the bottom hem and also on the belt loops.

The name of this pattern is "The Trumpet Flower Dress". It is inspired by one of my childhood memories. Years ago while visiting my cousins in Alabama, I remember playing with the trumpet flowers that grew in their backyard. We picked the flowers and turned them upside down and made believe that they were ballerinas, the petals of the flowers being their dresses. The skirt of this dress is designed to recreate that idea.
